Signs Your Septic Needs Pumping
Regular Maintenance of Your Septic Tank Is Key
A septic tank is a key component of any septic system, and regular maintenance is essential to keep it functioning correctly. Septic pumping is removing sewage and wastewater from the tank, and it should be done every three to five years, depending on the tank size and the number of people using it. Environmental factors such as rainfall and ground saturation can also affect septic pumping frequency.
Failure to pump the septic tank regularly can lead to a build-up of sludge and scum, which can eventually cause the tank to fail.
This can be a costly and messy repair, so it’s best to stay on top of septic tank maintenance.
Locating Your Septic Tank
If you have a septic tank on your property, it is crucial to know where it is located. This will be essential when you need to have the tank pumped or if you experience any septic problems.
The first step is to locate your septic tank. If you don’t know where it is, you can start by looking for an inspection opening in your yard. The septic tank will be located near this inspection openings.
Once you find the septic tank, make a note of its location so that you can easily find it again in the future.

Wastewater Treatment Systems
Wee R Pumping offers wastewater treatment plant pumping and cleaning services in conjunction with your approved service technician.
Many of our customers are unaware that their service provider may void their warranty if they engage in any wastewater treatment services without first informing them. We want to make sure that doesn’t happen to you.
If you have a wastewater treatment plant (including Enviro Cycle, Aussie Clean, Halls System), your first port of call is to contact your service agent for direction. After reviewing the specifics of your particular system, your service agent will advise whether or not they require their technician be on site during the pump.
We will work with your service provider to ensure your warranty is not compromised. After all, your peace of mind is important to us.
Grease Trap Pumping Hobart
For grease traps to work properly, they need to be regularly maintained. The frequency of maintenance will depend on things like the size of your grease trap and the amount of grease your kitchen produces. But no matter what, it’s important to stay on top of grease trap maintenance. A grease trap that isn’t properly maintained can back up, clog drains and increase the potential of wastewater overflows.
So if you want to keep your kitchen running smoothly (and avoid any unpleasant surprises), make sure you’re staying on top of your grease trap maintenance.
Commercial Grease Traps
Grease traps play an important role in the food and beverage industry. They help to keep grease and food solids out of our waterways and landfills.
By trapping these solid particles, grease traps prevent environmental contamination and protect public health. In addition, grease traps help to reduce the costs associated with disposing of waste grease and food solids.
As a result, they are an essential piece of equipment for any business that produces grease or food waste.
Residential Grease Traps
Grease traps can also be installed in residential homes. If you have a grease trap that is not working properly, it can cause serious problems for your home’s plumbing. A grease trap that is not maintained can overflow and release grease and oil into your drains, causing clogs.
In addition, grease traps can become breeding grounds for bacteria and other pests.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Wee R Pumping a licensed Controlled Waste Transporter?
Wee R Pumping is licensed with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a Controlled Waste Transporter, Registration No. 11479/1.
Is Wee R Pumping Tasmanian owned?
Yes, Wee R Pumping is proudly a Tasmanian family owned and operated business.
Why is access required to the septic tank’s main lid, when there is an IO visible?
For a thorough septic tank pumping service, access to the main lid of the tank is required. This allows us to pump both chambers of the tank effectively.
While pumping through an Inspection Opening (IO) may seem more convenient since it doesn’t require digging up the lid, it typically only allows access to one side of the tank. This method prevents the operator from seeing what is being extracted, breaking up waste, and properly removing sludge and solids. As a result, there is a risk only the liquid may be extracted, leaving behind sludge that can set solid, impacting the longevity of your septic tank.
Why is access to water/garden hose required?
To effectively pump the contents of your septic tank, the waste needs to be in a liquid form.
Over time, the contents can dry out and thicken. When this happens, our driver may need to use a garden hose to add water to the tank in order to bring its contents into a pumpable liquid consistency.
Where is pumping waste disposed of?
Waste is discharged at an approved TasWater Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Why do septic tanks require pumping every 3-5 years?
Over time, sludge and solids accumulate at the bottom of the tank. Excess sludge and solids can enter the outlet chamber, exiting to the system’s drainage trenches causing blockages, potentially requiring replacement. A full tank can back-up into the pipes into your home, leading to unpleasant odours and slow drains. In severe cases the sewerage can come back up through the drains into your home.
Regular pumping removes this buildup, ensuring that your septic system continues to operate efficiently and prolonging its lifespan
Why is it necessary to refill poly & fibreglass tanks with water?
Refilling poly and fiberglass tanks two-thirds with water is crucial to prevent them from being displaced by ground pressure.
These tanks have soft sides, making them susceptible to lifting, especially when the surrounding soil is saturated with water. Without the weight of water inside, the tank can be pushed upward, potentially damaging the connected plumbing. Keeping the tank filled helps to anchor it in place, ensuring the system remains stable and operational.
